The Gobo Plant – Year 2

Last year I planted a batch of gobo (burdock) plants from seed.  The local Japanese market enticed me with a variety called “salada musume,” roughly translated as salad maiden. I harvested some crooked roots, and experimented with some new recipes, and left a couple roots in the planter, just to see what would happen the second year.

yikes.  One remaining plant shot out as soon as the weather turned warmer.  The plentiful flower heads are now reaching out and getting ready to bloom.  Why am I reminded of the pesky Sentinels looking for Neo’s ship in the Matrix, the way these flower heads are reaching out?
