Ipe Deck Construction

We had started to plan for a deck the previous summer but ran into problems with a contractor who kept vanishing. So, as soon as the weather turned dry, we looked...

The framing is mostly in place by this time, and the deck joists are insulated with the Vycor deck protector.

Since the irrigation main shutoff and the sewer cleanout would be buried under the deck, we planned for an access hatch where the joists are spaced out a bit more than elsewhere.

There is even a catch basin under the deck to capture the water.

The steps are being framed.

On this day, Victor had a helper. Most days he worked by himself.

Making all the levels work was a bit tricky.

This was an education in Simson Ties.

The rest of the yard served well as the staging area.

My plan is to build a raised veggie planter next to the deck.
